Got an email from Microcenter that they are selling the AMD FX 8320E Black Edition [microcenter.com] and the ASUS M5A78L-M Plus [microcenter.com] for $40 AR. Note that there is an $40 rebate for the CPU and an $10 rebate for the Mobo so you have to pay $90 plus tax up front. Guess they are clearing out these cpus out to make way for the Ryzens...

They have been.

The best deal was the Gigabyte UD3P board with this CPU for $40 plus tax AR:

The only thing left now are weak boards like this ASUS but this CPU is okay with them if you don't overclock much.

This board has no cooling on the VRM. It is rated for 125W but I assume it will throttle at that wattage unless a person puts a cooling fan over the VRM area. The 8320E doesn't even need 95 watts at stock speed, though.

For best performance, however, this CPU can easily run at 4.4 GHz. It just needs a board like the UD3P.

This is a really good deal for anyone concerned about Intels IME and AMD's PSP in their current generation processors.

Damn. Building a PC for my girlfriend for Christmas. Was going to go with Ryzen 3 1300x. But i might swing over to Microcenter and grab. Any reasons to stick with 1300x over this?
upgrade path. if you are starting from ground up, why spend $140 on outdated ddr3 memory and also a board with no future support?

For most people, this is only a good deal if you have an existing computer you are very happy with, and only need a new CPU and MB. I.e. you have DDR3 ram in sufficient quantity.

If you are building a new system, then a Ryzen or Intel based system makes more sense when you combine economy and upgradability.

Strictly performance per dollar speaking, I suppose you can argue a properly overclocked 8320e (not likely with the board described in this deal) will have multi-core performance better than many other systems. But at least in my experience, for 90% of the time for most people, (running office productivity software, web surfing, youtube, and other single-core usage), a low end intel i3 with no overclocking will be snappier in performance.
