Cheapest place to get a legitimate Windows 10 for a new build?

129 17 November 24, 2017 at 10:48 PM
HI All

I think its time to build a new computer. Can anyone tell me where I can get a legitimate licensed Windows 10 for a new build? Is there any Black Friday type deals around?

I came across this site
ttps://www.softwaresmax.com/tech/all-categories/os/microsoft-windows-10-professional-32-bit-64-bit-editions.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAo9_QBRACEiwASknDwakwx2Ri6MjkVfJbKVUI_VxtnelnXBACKWOcmQS5W_DoEzaYteZlqRoCzfwQAvD_BwE

Its around 30 bucks but theres no guarantee that its legit.

thanks

Second the vote for Ebay - it's really the only game in town. Pay via Paypal and receive the key code within a very short time via email. Done. I needed 2 for a client not too long ago and only paid a few bucks each.

One never really knows for sure with Ebay. For Win 10, the probability is a lot higher they are not. For Windows 7, a lot of people are reselling old license keys on the cheap. There are also people with MSDN licenses that sell extra legit keys even though technically they are not supposed to.

exactly..and when its priced "a few bucks" its guaranteed to not be a valid license for a new system..it might work, but its not legit.

See this: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/micro...-features/

Select something like "Onscreen Keyboard" during the install and it's still free, at least until Dec 31, 2017. (That doesn't mean the license expires on that date, just that new installs won't be free after that date).

Maybe. Maybe not. The ebay seller I used has sold 1000s of them and the listing contains multiple assurances as to them being genuine valid system builder licenses sourced from authorized Microsoft partners. Good enough for me. I have to think that Microsoft and Ebay monitor this type of sale and shut down large scale counterfeiters.

I purchased 4 license keys for Office 2013 Pro + from softwaresmax.com in February. Recently two copies stopped loading. When I ran the repair and reentered the key, I got an invalid key message. I have emailed and called software max, but received no response. So I contacted the Microsoft volume licensing Dept and was told that the licenses were actually "MSDN" licenses for development and not production use and they were deactivated because they had been activated multiple times. The agent said that the company was not an authorized reseller. Guess this explains the pricing.

You might want to look at the Dell outlet if you can find a system with a tower case and the processor you want it may wind up costing less than the parts you were going to use.

Then add your own drives and video card.

It could absolutely be legit. It may be OEM, but that doesn't make the key illegal or non-functional.

If it was illegal, Microsoft would put a stop to it. We all know they have the legal ability, especially through eBay.

(I saw at least one eBay seller that sold windows 10 keys bundled with a non-functional hard-drive. The hard-drive was local pickup only and if you didn't, they would "dispose" of it for you.)

Must have been because of abuse stupidity lol. Unless they changed the MSDN terms recently, Office keys are allowed on up to 5 machines per license. Even if the seller was selling MSDN licenses keys (which you are not supposed to do), I doubt they got caught for that. They probably tried to sell the license to way more than 5 people and MS caught it on their database.

Your logic is flawless Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) there is certainly no illegal copyright infringement going on on ebay...lol
OEM keys are not transferable...perhaps you should read the EULA, if you know what that is.
So newegg is violating the EULA?

I believe OEM licenses are tied to the machine sold\activated. Someone can check to see if the terms have changed for Windows 10. So if a company owns them and they have not been used on a sold machine they are transferable.
