PSA: Larabar Fruit and Nut Bar - Beware of microbiological spoilage or mold

-9 Deal Score
4,557 Views
I purchased Larabar Fruit and Nut Bar - Cashew Cookie 16ct (1.7oz) and received it on Sep 27, 2017. I remember eating a couple of bars within 10 days. Generally, I like Larabar fruit and nut bar because it is tasty, looks and feels fresh. I took few bars and stored in my office desk.

Earlier this week, I opened one bar and was shocked to see some white yucky stuff (probably microbiological spoilage or mold). I checked the expiry date and found out to be Feb 27, 2018. I opened another bar and found similar white yucky stuff. I took some pictures and threw away the bars. I still have about 10 bars (unopened). I chatted with Amazon representative and obtained a refund.

Earlier, I was thinking to give these bars to my little one. This is scary since some little kids may not pay attention to the microbiological spoilage or mold, and just eat them. I think that it is a food safety issue. Beware!

Check out out reviews at Amazon.

Every popular product has some one star reviews. You can't please everyone.

Sarcasm I hope!

My wife eats these bars but we usually get them from big lots not Amazon. Haven't had such an issue.

They're just getting into the spirit and decorating with fake cobwebs for Halloween.

I believe the proper usage is "microbial" but I may have missed some sort of change. It's important, because if any of the other packages have it, please contact Larabar with info from the wrappers - or even better yet if you still have any of the wrappers fish it out. Using the terminology properly will give you more credibility, though your taking pictures will really help it. Smilie

My eyes are fatigued and I'm focusing poorly, so I cannot see your pictures too well. If they are fuzzy, something is growing. If it's not it can be something growing on the surface, or it can be the separation out of components due to bad storage conditions (often heat) or just they didn't make the bar correctly.

Either way give them the lot number. They will absolutely adore you if you still have any of the bars, and might even pay to have one FedExed to them. I'm not kidding. They want to get a recall made before anyone gets sick, or even worse dies (immuno-compromised individuals typically). You'll do everyone a favor if you do. Thanks for posting here at SD on it.

People are stupid. There is no reason to TD a thread when someone takes the time during this busy holiday season to try & warn others about something that may effect their health. SMH. TU OP!
