Need 82mm Filters, this lens is no slouch. Nikon VR, Canon IS, Tamron VC are all good, but this one at half the price of the cheapest tammy. For videos, stabilized versions maybe what you need, but you will like the colors, just carry $10 monopod.

Any good deal on 82mm Filter? Yes, they are not cheap!

A solid deal, but this lens does not have image stabilization of any kind unlike the lenses OP referenced in his original post. IS may not be necessary at this focal length, but that is up to each buyer adn what they plan to shoot.

Here is a DXOMark comparison [dxomark.com] of similar lenses (scroll down to see the results), so one can see how well this lens compares to similar ones. And here's a review [dxomark.com] of the Tokina.

Clearly, an excellent lens, particularly at this price. But, as noted previously, no image stabilization. I think I'm going to wait for the Tamron 24-70 "G2" (new version) to come down a bit and then jump on that one. But this one was tempting.

I am surprised to see the TDs on this Tokina lens as "not a good price", since it seems to be an excellent price from what I can tell.

This is a great deal on a very good lens, even despite the lack of image stabilization. The Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 II is slightly sharper (own it) and also lacks IS but goes for over twice the price.

I'm baffled as to why people would thumbs down this deal because of the lack of IS or because it doesn't fit their APS-C camera. Both not valid options imo. I was surprised to see all the thumbs up on that costco D7200 deal, which very few people could reproduce, but so few votes on this one.

Isn't the Tamron would be better for a little extra ?

Thanks for hotlinking dxo. Came here to look at that. Looks like a decent lens. I'd love to get the Tamron G2, but still too pricey. Ive only used a Tokina 11-20 on my APSc Canon, and I absolutely love it. Takes incredible shots. Ive never used 24-70 zoom. Is the stabilization necessary at the long end?

This is just an ok deal, the Tamron 24-70 G1 has VC and is routinely $699 new on ebay/amazon.

This appears to be regular price at this stage, for $500 I will buy one.
The lens is too heavy.

DxoMark is an excellent resource. I have researched my past 2 lens and body purchases using their benchmarking.

Have had my eyes on the canon version of this lens.

have a GH4 w/sigma 18-35.

This worth picking up at this price and foregoing the cannon? Primarily video focused.
