Looks like this is top-rated for email, surfing, and movies, but rated average for gaming.

for anyone thinking about buying from ebay, just make sure you read the fine prints, as dell warranty and premium panel guarantee will most likely only apply when you directly purchase from Dell.com

Good point... but hopefully it'll be okay. I've been looking for a sale on this monitor so long that I've placed my order. The premium panel policy says "purchased from Dell" and doesn't say ".com" anywhere: http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/0...-guarantee

Its tricky but the wording is "units purchased direct from Dell". Note the word direct. Lots of manufacturer do this.

Dell via ebay could constitute as 'direct'

It's better just to ask than to assume

Following up on the question of whether this counts as "direct from Dell", I got two official Dell order confirmation emails that look exactly like an order from Dell.com, and interestingly they show the price for this monitor as $879.99. (But I confirmed that my credit card transaction shows the correct amount.)

U3417 or U3415 - Which is the Better Monitor for the Money?

The predecessor model, the Dell U3415W, is on sale on Dell's website for $599.00. If you purchase it through the link from SlickDeals, there is a $100.00 Slick Deals rebate, which would make the total $499.00. Some of the reviews of the U3415W mention an issue re black light bleed in the corners, other reviews do not, and I don't know if this was ever corrected in later builds (it came out in 2015). Does anyone have a sense of which of these is the better bang for one's buck, the U3415W at $499, or the U3417W at $630.00?
Thanks

It seemed to me like the U3417W was a worthwhile update with a better backlight and slightly more curvature, but I'm sure the U3415W is an excellent display. I'm sure the U3417W will be outdated soon too.

Interesting find, but its not 4K equivalent resolution. The vertical resolution is much lower than 4K, so I'm thinking this would be a downgrade of my 16:9 4K monitor.

Yes it would be. A very big downgrade in resolution.
