Either will do the job well. The Nest is better quality from a materials perspective. The Nest also doesn't require a C (common) wire to power the unit, which would be beneficial for some as it could make for an easier installation if your furnace doesn't have one. The ecobee can use remote sensors though, which the Nest cannot. But it's not like to can route heating or cooling to one specific area of your house. The Ecobee has Alexa interaction built-in too, which might have some benefit. The Nest also has a good resolution color screen and some learning algorithms that the ecobee does not. You really can't go wrong with either.

--edit-- According to Amazon, the 3rd Gen Nest does work with Amazon Alexa. You just need an Alexa equipped device (like an Echo). The Ecobee 4 has Alexa voice services built-in.

On Amazon, the Nest has a 4.5 star rating with 16000+ reviews. Ecobee4 has a 4 star rating with 400+ reviews. However, neither of these systems blows the other out of the water. Nest wins on build quality; Ecobee wins with its remote sensor setup.

Just a tip, try to check your power company website, many got marketplace where they sell wifi thermostat and led bulbs with install rebates or bill adjustment rebates. Say "Georgia Power" company in Atlanta got a marketplace where they sell Nest for $99 now and their usual price is $149.

You should've got the ecobee3 with 3 sensors from Costco. Better deal.

I know that. But ecobee 4 is latest model and i don't need 6 sensors. With 20 saving from 2 that I bought I can buy couple more if needed when a deal comes by paying little more.
