From reviews these are just broken used drives masquerading as "refurbished."

It is kind of deceptive is it not?
There is a huge difference between and discontinued product that sat on a shelf and is now on clearance but is actually brand new vs a drive that has run 24/7 for 3 years straight and someone just sells it as refurbished because it turns on.
Russian roulette anyone?

these are server pulls, hardly broken - the reviews are better than for many consumer drives!
most folks will get a drive with few power on/off cycles and probably ~2yrs of 24/7 duty - not really a lot of wear for enterprise drives. will there be duds, occasionally - that's why there's a 90-day return/exchange policy, plenty of time to uncover any hidden issues

I make no comment on these particular drives, but I hate the general trend to label enterprise pulls that have had the wheels driven off of them as "refurbished". They should call them what they are, "used".

This isn't difficult, if you don't want to buy a drive that's been used, but still probably works fine, buy a new one!

I have 2 running for few months in my NAS with no problem. Would get 2 more to replace what I have left of 2TB WD's, but NE rebate = a no-go for me. Will wait for another straight discount deal on these.

Has anybody connected these HDDs to a Netgear X4S R7800 router via USB to use as a network backup? So far I can't get the router to recognize the hard drive. Changing the file format to ExFAT allowed the Mac to see it at least. The below page isn't exactly raising my spirits...

Any help is appreciated.

Got a couple of these. Anyone know how fast NE ships? I chose the economy/free shipping option.

This drive continues to give me issues. My router, my WD My Cloud Mirror, and even a separate hard drive enclosure all cannot see this disk. I'm not sure what's going on with it, but I've had all kinds of problem. On only one PC, in one particular hard drive enclosure, can I use this disk. In all other circumstances, different machine with the same enclosure, or same machine with different enclosure, I cannot see and use this disk. Highly disappointing, but it was cheap so I guess I got what I paid for.

Yes the Amazon reviews on these refurb are better than a brand new drive.
