But then again - this isn't a junk 2 year old laptop

the 980m is up there with the 1060

the 68xx intel processor is an enthusiast cpu - it has a long life ahead of it

this has 32gb RAM with a ssd + extra storage

find something comparable under $1k - I haven't looked, but I doubt you can.

But if you can, my apologies.

You are right.

After my post, I checked the specifications on the website. I was wrong.

It even has 4k display. Nice deal.

Yup looks like 1060 is better than 980M

I've got a GTX980 paired with a 4K display in a desktop environment. That 980 will have a hard time pushing 4K in many games at any measurable level of settings detail.

I think it's a good deal if not the best. The Gpu is apparently the weakling here, but with 32 gb, 4k 17.3 screen and a beefy oc processor and 256 gb nvme ssd + 1 tb hdd. It's hard to find a computer like this at this price point.

If it had a 1060 6gb I'd pull the trigger, but I don't need 4k neither 32gb of RAM. My search continues.....

This would make for a good Mobile Workstation for even up to 4K video editing...gaming...not so much.

This might be the best deal of the season for photo editing. Great CPU, 32gb, 4k, 100% sRGB, 88%Adobe... Trying to fight off temptation..

The ram and ssd alone sell for over $400. The CPU is also a beast and can overclock to over 4GHZ on all 4 cores. Nice system for 1K.

I agree most of it. Still 980m is about 15% slower than 1060, but 20% faster than 1050 ti. It's not bad, but not too much future proof. But again, with 32gb ram and 4k screen, I wish I was in the market for it. I paid $900 for an Asus G751 JY about a few months back also from newegg with i7-4870, 980m, 32gb ddr3, 17.3 G-sync full hd screen, 512 gb pcle nvme ssd+ 1 tb hdd. It's a pretty maxed out system, and is very happy with it. I will probably hold on for another 2 years until the 980m isn't very relevant to new games.
Edit: just notice this system has 8gb for vram, interesting. Not sure how much is this better than more common 4gb vram for 980m?
