Sig Sauer is offering a free Pair of Earmuffs with Electronic Hearing protectors with a purchase of $100 or more. These are a $70 value.

DETAILS
SIG EHP feature a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 23 dB, and features a sound activated compression (SAC) of 0.02 seconds. SAC is a special electronic circuitry that will compress gun shots and other loud noises down to a safe level without completely shutting the noise off. This allows you to hear range commands or communicate with your hunting partners -- even when shots are being fired around you. Includes 2 AAA batteries.

Disclaimer: Post contains person opinion(s) only.

If you're already making a $100+ purchase from SiG,* this is a great deal to be aware of. You don't want to walk away from your purchase leaving 'money' on the table.

That said, these aren't the greatest muffs, protection-wise. The selling point here (IMO) is that these seem like really good muffs, performance-wise.**

I just want to mention that the SAC helps, but regardless of the assistive technology, NRR=23 isn't always adequate.

For example, here are a random pair of Peltors that I just saw on Amazon for $27, with an NRR of 31.

If you're going to be shooting indoors (or somewhere else sound may be reflected back at you, instead of dissipating in all directions), this becomes more important.

I wouldn't buy these for my kids, whose hearing I value more than NRR=23. But I would run them on my own head, esp. outdoors. I would also love to have these in my range bag, as an option.

*Additional Disclosure: I'm a SiG fanboy
**Disclaimer: I don't own a pair of these muffs, but they remind me of my excellent Pel-Tacs (but are possibly better than my Pel-Tacs), which normally run about $90.

Don't skimp on hearing protection. I'd wear these muffs for cutting the grass or outdoor shooting of .22 but not much more than that.

Realize the intended purpose of these, they reduce the unsafe levels of a gun shot, and otherwise amplify the other noise so you can hear with the earmuffs on. This works very well when combine with ear plugs. Additionally, if you bird hunt or would like some hearing protection when occasionally being around a gun shot, these provide some protection.
