Not a bad deal to be honest considering the warranty versus shucking the one from Bestbuy 8TB

Hmmm.... can't you use any hard drive in a NAS?

Absolutely, but all drives aren't as well tuned to be inside a NAS.

I think Reds also come pre-configured with settings appropriate to NAS usage. If I understand correctly, many people could get by with a WD Green in place of a Red, they just need to use various utilities to twiddle firmware stuff.

Good price on this drive; only better price I've seen was a mistake through a 3rd-party Walmart e-tailer. I actually started looking for prices on this exact drive today so I could set up a mirrored array for my local server.

Kinda.. it depends on how the controller handles the drive. Some drives actually don't work well at all in any kind of raid environment.

After getting two of the 8TB Red and a Synology D216 Play for $130 each, regular prices don't seem worth it. Is the general consensus that the shucking deals are over for 8TB/256MB cache reds? Prices have seemed stagnant.

It's from the Best buy easy store external. But the last $130 deal we're white label drives inside

Am I crazy.. I could have sworn I saw better deals on this last year. Remember when old hard drive models were half the price.
