Great price. Debating between this one and the JBL LSR305's. Any reason the pick one over the other? I'll mainly be using these for mixing

One of mine krk rokit 5 gen 2 speakers stopped working last night and I'm so tempted to purchase this gen 3 to replace it. Any thoughts on pairing a gen 2 and gen 3 - would the sound get distorted?

I'd recommend the JBLs, especially for mixing. I actually ordered a pair from Amazon this weekend. I demoed them verses everything else Guitar Center had about a month ago. I kind of prefer the Yamaha monitors over JBL, but considering the price, the JBLs were the winners.

Just in case, clarifying that this price is for a single speaker.

Same price as the JBL LSR305 currently on sale.

The JBLs appear to be balanced input only? The Rokit have an unbalanced RCA input as well.

You can with the right wiring setup... but you'd have no way to control the volume except by going behind each speaker and manually turning the volume pot and volume matching.

As for G2 vs G3 it seems the G3 plays a bit lower and seemingly (by reviews, I haven't heard both) the G3 is not as flat freq response as the G2.

These will play lower and have a fuller sound than the Yu 4. That's just by the fact that this has a 5" woofer and the Yu 4 has a 4" woofer and the freq response have a base of 45Hz for the KRK's and 60Hz for the Yu. Unless space is an issue these or the JBL's will sound better than the Yu's. The Yu get the benefit of an internal DAC and a remote. So not really in the same market as the KRK and JBL studio monitors.

JBL's also have 1/4" TRS input as well, there's tons of cheap converters from RCA to that plug. The JBL's are flatter and better imaging than the KRK's, the KRK's have a more fun sound profile and slightly smaller.

Thanks. I don't understand balanced vs. unbalances well so wasn't sure that was an option. Where are the JBLs on sale for $100?

Edit - Never mind, found them at Amazon!

Would these be ok sitting on a computer desk, only about 2.5 feet between me and the speakers?

2.5 feet away is just about the ideal length between your ears and the speakers. These will surprise you with how great they are.

Excellent, thanks.

I need to connect the output of this Rolls MX51S [amazon.com] to the JBLs.

I think I need this cable?

Edit - Slickdeals keeps editing the URL. It's on Amazon as urlhasbeenblocked 5ft Dual RCA Male Jack to Dual 6.35mm 1/4" TRS Male Plug Stereo Audio Cable Cord Wire for Mixer AV Amplifier

Or this? https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-...MDWMBZADYA
