EDIT: Looks like all of the ones I was talking about have been snatched up now. Sorry to those that missed out.

For those that missed out on the Nighthawk router earlier today both at Amazon and at Staples, Amazon Warehouse Deals has some Used - Very Good ones for $110.49 but there's 20% off right now bringing it down to $88.39. For the description, it says item will come repackaged. I've personally had great luck with Amazon Warehouse Deals and more often than not get brand new items in either damaged packaging or repackaged. Worth a shot. I'll just return if it's not in great shape.

Seems like a good deal, but with the Linksys Max-Stream (EA8300) half price right now (for $99) isn't that a better router for not much more? Is it just down to preference between brands and AC2600 vs. AC2200 (which makes no difference to me)?

I have followed SmallNetBuilder and their reviews/rankings of routers for a very long time. The R7800 is a much better router according to them AND I have tested both. I feel the R7800 is a better router.

Thanks for posting this, I've been wanting to upgrade my R6200 recently and this Nighthawk should do the trick!

Thank you both. I work in IT, but live and work in an area where the best Internet option is 10Mbps (IF you are lucky) so I have fallen behind a bit in my wireless router ratings. Coverage is also a challenge here. It looks like the Nighthawk is indeed the best performer. I appreciate your help.

What would be the best router/modern under 200 bucks? I was looking at the
NETGEAR Nighthawk Dual Band AC1900 Cable Modem Router

Thoughts?

I have this router, and this thing positively hums along with our gigabit internet. I don't have any wireless devices good enough to push it's wireless capabilities, but it's wired never falters and keeps up with whatever is thrown at it. However I'm not sure it's worth the money for slower internet speeds, as even an old Netgear R6700, will work for anything up to at least 300mbps.
Also the stock firmware seems stable. I reboot the router once every few weeks as a precaution, but it's been fine.

Bought one Friday that arrived today. Not in original box but looks brand new. The normal netgear adhesive film was missing but a standard SSID and password sticker was affixed to the main unit. Will test later tonight. Replaces an R6700.
