$64.80 including tax more for that model. This is a nice cheaper alternative

I understand both sides here.

But in the end even as a gift for my mother, the screen resolution is a deal breaker.
She is 80 and even she would not like a screen with that res.

This thing with tax is 321. Sure you can upgrade the RAM, but ddr4 prices are high. On top of this the laptop probably has a 4gb and 2gb ram configuration, so it won't run dual channel like the aforementioned deal. This reduces IGPU performance, and believe me, with Intel hd graphics you want every drop of power you can get. On top of that you get double the storage and a very significant increase in power between the i3 and i5. You have to remember with these laptops you have to replace the motherboard to upgrade the couch, since the CPUs are soldered in. I would wait for another deal, this simply isn't slick. There is an HP laptop with an i5 8th gen that has double the cores of the 7th gen i5, and has the same performance as an i7 7th gen. Buy that, they are pretty close in price too
