Been watching for pb13-ultra for a long time, price finally dropped. Glad I didn't pull the trigger on a dual pb12-NSD. Just hope my wife could approve two, but...one is enough to make me happy until next BF.

So a single 13 ultra is better than 2 x 12 nsd units (currently only $500 each)?

I have a giant room to fill up with sound (2 floors plus open on one side).

What about the 12 ultra?

Thanks.

hmm, there's no 12 ultra, u mean 12 plus?
I literally asked the same question in the black friday nsd deal thread and to the SVS expert about dual nsd against single pb 13 ultra, both recommended me to get pb13 ultra, good I didn't have to wait too long.

yes, sorry, i meant the 12 plus for $900 (although with cosmetic issues).

the 13 ultra ported for $1400 or the sealed 13 ultra for $1k seem like the best values on there currently.

Depends on how much work you want to do. 2 subs isn't going to give you louder bass, just smoother more even response across all your seating positions, if you place them correctly. If you go with a single sub, it is more work to find the best placement and you won't have the same response across all your seating positions.

If you only have a single seating position and you have time to do the subwoofer crawl, then a single sub can work, OK, but generally speaking 2 subs are better.

That said in your situation, you aren't going to pressurize your room no matter how big you go, as it sounds like it is an open concept great room. So buy a 13 ultra now and save up for a second later?

Thanks for the advice. At these prices, you can get 3 x PB-12 for one 13 Ultra, but my wife would kill me if UPS showed up with 3 large subs. PB-12 definitely seems like the best bang for the buck, but 13 Ultra ported is my choice for now. Little bit of a hard time spending $1400 though.

PB-12 Plus is only $899! That's the best deal right there. I already owned PB13, Dual SB13, Dual SB16, traded PB12-NSD. PB13 is the best tier. NExt is dual PB16-ultra.

There are better subwoofers out there by HSU research, PSA subwoofers, and more.
If you're filling up a large room, dual VTF-3 MK5 are going to do MUCH better than dual NSD or a single 12 or 13 Ultra. http://www.hsuresearch.com/produc...mk5HP.html
Or step it up to dual VTF-15 MK2, which a single one is roughly equivalent in output to a 13 Ultra, and you'll have plenty of power for even a very large room.

Alternatively, if you want to stick to a single subwoofer, this will also absolutely massacre the SVS: https://www.powersoundaudio.com/products/V1801

That being said, I still believe dual VTF-3 or VTF-15 is going to be better, just because they'll do more for filling the room. That PSA will just have lower excursion, but it may struggle to fill a larger room.

The PC13-Ultra for $1299 is really tempting but wife won't sign off on it cause it's too tall and will stand out in the room. I wish some of the other PC speakers were on sale!

1399 is approaching the ballpark of what these things should cost normally... as noted there's better stuff out there from other vendors (PSA, JTR, etc)

The PC13U was awesome 10 years ago, but it's been outclassed pretty significantly by a lot of others these days so them still asking 2k for non-outlet ones is pretty nuts

FWIW if you're trying to fill a really massive space a pair of 13s, or even a pair of 15s, is unlikely to do it... depending how massive you're talking at least a pair of 18s, if not 3 or 4 of em.

There's one dude on avsforums for example that to pressurize a 10,000 cubic foot open floorplan house ended up needing 4 JTR Cap 1400s-

I agree SVS is overpriced for 2017, the key is to buy a used one..... or on craigs, etc.... My Pc-13 was pickup for well under $400 and in perfect shape... The sale prices should be the reg msrp and we all know how huge the markup is on speakers!!! HUGE!! Even the manager of MAgnolia in Bestbuy was bragging to me just how much $$$ is made on the speakers and subs they carry including the SVS they carry. One thing I will say....Having owned the pb-12, it is a great sub.. at $500 shipped, not sure much can beat it.... It was my favorite sub in that range.... Of course the 13" series is not a fair comparison .Also, there is something to be said about the great customer service at SVS... that to me is worth a lot!

Good idea! I'll give things a measure and see if I can make it fit. I am trying to hide it behind the recliner which is shoved in the corner, but the chair is only 40" tall (which would be the PC12-Plus if it were on sale).

Many people have the same issue with these "Towers of power" !...lol...there just too tall...almost a hot water heater, so many folks with the right furniture/ room layout put them on their sides and that was a good solution... just keep in mind if it is going on it's side some people put some sort of "wedge" to hold it up against the wall, molding, couch etc, other wise it will move on you.....
