Getting started w/USENET

439 62 November 26, 2017 at 07:12 PM
Im looking for the basics of what I need to start using USENET. I have been doing USENET research (with the help of google & SD's recent USENET newsdemon deal), however, it is somewhat confusing.

For example, if I go with the newsdemon deal at https://slickdeals.net/f/10898243-unlimited-usenet-3-month-30-year-4tb-40-newsdemon-black-friday-sale?v=1&src=SiteSearch are my total costs needed to use USENET just what newsdemon charges (i.e. $3.85 monthly plan) or are there more charges (i.e. from newsgroups/search engines, etc) that I need to plan for?

NZB Search Engines...some are free and some have have an annual fee:

https://greycoder.com/best-usenet-indexes/

https://www.google.com/search?q=n...irefox-b-1

To download the files (free but would appreciate a donation):

https://sabnzbd.org/

A VPN would be good to use...just in case.

Windscribe (Lifetime) is on sale for $29.40 using 40% off coupon CYBER40:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10937039-29-40-lifetime-windscribe-vpn-more-stacksocial?sdxt01=2017-11-26+19%3A32%3A45&sdxt07=0&utm_source=dealalerts&utm_medium=em-i&utm_term=166&utm_content=1448986&utm_campaign=tu-9999&p=108324595&src=da_si_v2_ni_14077026

Another good one is VPN.asia (Lifetime) for $39.99-40% = $23.99 (my favorite):

https://stacksocial.com/sales/lif...8e6322db28

There are others available and you can use the 40% off coupon...some are good and some are bad.

I have both Windscribe and VPN.asia and both work great for me.

Thank you for your response. But doesn't the newsdemon deal come with VPN included in the price?

SlickVPN Core included:

Vs the full SlickVPN membership:

Needs differ regarding a VPN....guess that is why there are so many to choose from. Smilie

Good VPN choices, thanks again.

Can I stream movies/videos/music from the "USENET" cloud/online servers (like Netflix or hulu) or do I have to download to a local HD first then stream?

I got the below USENET deal.
https://slickdeals.net/f/11092487-500-gb-usenet-5-00-usenet-express?v=1&src=SiteSearch

The 3 options for Usenet Client Software per https://www.usenetexpress.com/guides/ are:
NZBget
NewsLeecher
SABnzbd

I get a Could not receive data on socket from news.usenetexpress.com: ErrNo 10060 with NZBget.
I get a 400 Unrecognized command with SABnzbd.
Newsleecher seemed to "install" correctly (see the attached jpeg), however, it is not clear what to do next after Newsleecher "installed."

I use Sabnzbd...so I will tell you how to set up with that:

Settings (gear icon in upper, right corner)

Servers

Host = news.usenetexpress.com

Port = 563

Your Username and Password which was provided by UsenetExpress when you got your account

Connections = 25 (but feel free to set it for up to 50)

Priority = 1

Check the 'SSL' box.

Then click "Test Server".

You will see 'Connection Successful' in a green rectangle if it is working.

Be sure to click 'Save Changes'

Now search for a NZB for whatever your want to download, click the NZB file after it downloads, and 'open with... Sabnzbd'

Sab starts the download and tells you if the download failed or was successful.

If it fails, look for a different NZB.

I put mine on a USB drive, attach it to the BluRay player and then watch on the TV.

Thanks, your settings helped me, the connection was successful.

Now, lets say I want to download the movie die hard. Where do I do that at?

See the links in msg # 2 above to find NZB search sites.

Search for the title of a movie that you want "Die Hard 1988". I usually look at the size of the file and shoot for around 1GB (range about 700-1300MB). You don't need to download a huge file to get a quality movie. The example is from nzbgeek.info

Download the NZB file.

Click on the downloaded NZB file and let it download the associated movie via Sabnzbd.

Sabnzbd will tell you whether the download was a success or failure.

If it is a failure, just choose a different NZB file and try again.

For what you want to do I would not bother with usenet. Get yourself a file host account.
