Since I've had my house rigged for a couple years (WiFi b/g/n router, access point, insteon automation for lights/irrigation) would it be better for me to just buy something like this and add it to my existing setup or rip all that stuff out and start from scratch with ac/mesh?

Have this system and it's going back. Not stable at all after the last FW update. I've had to reboot the routers at least twice in the past 4 days because of speed issues. Shame.

Which mesh solution will you turn to?

I don't like mesh for reliability. I have 2 Nighthawks, 5 wired switches, 1 wired firewall. Depends on what your needs are. Mine are for wired. Two wireless routers are for kids tablets.

Don't forget replacing a good routers antennas with a high powered one makes a huge difference.

I have this system I have no issues on this. I have had the google mesh and a custom mesh i created this by far is the best I have had the backhaul allows more too. I was very surprised by the coverage as I can get coverage all the way to my mailbox getting 300 Mbps down as I have a 1GB down fiber connection. The response time also stayed very low.

I highly recommend it. There were issues with MAC laptops but I believe that is fixed i only run windows or gaming systems/tvs. For this price i highly recommend

Pulled the trigger on one. All WiFi is flaky in my experience so I'll take the risk my computers work well with this one.

The lack of OpenVPN on the Amplifi kept me from using that. That's a deal breaker for me. Why not just roll back the firmware update on the Orbi and wait for the next one...?

I've been using the Google WiFi for about 6 months now. Very reliable, fast and dead simple to set up/administer.

Running this package for about a year now and have had no issues (disabled Verizon wifi and hooked this directly into it). Have the main router in the basement and then a satellite placed on the first floor in the kitchen, and I have full signal throughout the entire home now. Even my Sonos system has run flawlessly where it used to drop connection when hooked into the Verizon router.
