I got one of those with my Red Card. Then also got a neon set on Amazon. I don't think I'll keep both but I'll see which one the kids prefer.

Have a Switch on the way, and the Pro Controller. What would I need a second set of Joy-Cons for?

A lot of people probably don't, myself included... but if you plan on playing a lot of multiplayer, especially for kids, 2 sets of joy-cons gives you essentially 4 controllers for Mario Kart/Bomberman etc.

Or if you're playing docked you can charge one set on the dock while playing with the others.

A second set of joy cons will generally fit into a travel case while a pro controller will not, to take extra controllers out and about for multiplayer games.

I ended up picking up a second set even though I have the pro controller also, mainly for the color variety and for the ability to play with four others (though that's rare for me)

My son always wants to play Super Mario Odyssey on the TV while I want to play Skyrim on the subway, the Pro controller is too big for his hands so this is pretty much why I got an extra pair of Joy-con. It really depends on your own situation.

Probably the same reason why others have multiple controllers. I have 2 sets of joycons they were before I got the pro controller. I mainly use pro controller for single player games with mutiplayer games I like that I can have up to 5 players with my given set of controllers which should accommodate most large parties. Also games like arms require a full set of controller, two player requires 2 set. Pretty sure you could use the pro controller but it's not as engaging...
