It is worth mentioning that (like most Amazon sales) the deal might end sooner if the item sells out...though sometimes they accept backorders.

Also, it appears that the white version may be version 1 or 2, but the black is definitely version 2 since version 1 never was produced in black (this was gleened from posts and google searches, so please feel free to double check that).

Monoprice confirms that all units sold by Amazon as new are V2 (black and white). The items on promo today are V2.

Wow!, the review on this are just awful. Looks like there is a distinct habit of Monoprice reseeling returned printer as new without even bothering to open them and check them.

Read the 1 star reviews. However, Amazon does have a great return process and service. The kicker for me was the number of people saying the printer failed 3 to 6 months in...way past any return policy. But then again, 3d printers do tend to need some ongoing maintenance, so hard to say.

Dang bought the refurbed V1 from monoprice for $135. Should I return and get this one instead? Is V2 a huge improvement over V1?

Are you sure this is v2? Most of the q&a on Amazon says it's v1.

I believe this is the V2 because the V1 series doesn't come in black. Also I check on Reddit to see the difference between them.

V2 has E3D clone, buildtak-like surface, fan added to cool internal components, black paint and insulation under the bed, better knob, and rotary encoder.

All 3D printers get lots of negative reviews. People buy them not knowing what to expect.

They aren't quite like normal printers. They need tweaking, maintenance and trial & error to get & keep them working well with whatever filament.

I am in complete agreement with you regarding the need to tweak 3-D printers, however the issues listed for this printer are not really related to having to tweak it… Especially the one where people keep getting a item that was returned by another buyer and was being sold as new… Plus the really bad experiences with monoprice support don't instill confidence... but that is not as big of a deal.

The thing is that this printer is being sold as ready to go out of the box, and it seems like a good portion of the time, it is defective right out of the box, or a return that was re-sold.

I complete agree they should not be selling open box as new. Completely.

As for it being defective right out of the box, I've seen a lot of posts from newbie 3D printer users and I put most of the blame on the newbie user and not the printer. 3D printers still aren't as easy to use as say a laserprinter. Simple things still need to be done, like leveling the bed, that newbie users don't seem to grasp. So many of the printers returned are perfectly fine, it's just that the person that tried to use didn't have a clue.

Specifically for this printer, there's a piece of tape that fixes the head in place during shipment. A lot of newbs complain that their printer is broken and just makes a clucking broken noise. Ah.... "Did you remove the tape holding the head in place? That's the belt skipping" Of course their answer is "What tape?". Too late though, they already sent it back.

Ok, so I just called Monoprice about the refurb that I purchased. The rep said the refurb could be a v2 or v1, I just have to wait and see when it arrives. As far as this one goes on Amazon, the rep said if it doesn't say v2 on the model, it's probably a v1.

It's great with the company themselves cant tell you what they sold you. But oh well... still exicted about my refurb printer! Applause

If it's black it's a v2. I'd cancel the refurb and stick with Amazon. Amazon you'll get a brand new one with a much easier and generous return policy.
