Good price if you're not paying tax. Wish the 16GB Ram models were also $200 off.

Same. I currently have 2009 and 2013 MBPs, both have 8GB RAM. No way I'm getting another with the same 8GB. Come on Apple, 16GB should be standard in all Pro models. Nothing "Pro" about 8GB nowadays.

Probably the best deal so far on the 2017 model (other than the student discounts from Best Buy).

I just wish it had the new 8th generation processors.

yes, 16GB and 256GB should be the minimum standard on these machines. Otherwise, it works as a designer accessory.

Do they solder the ram into MBPs now? Or the SSD?

I'm going on my memory here:

RAM is soldered as of MBP 2014 or 2015s

SSD is more like flash memory in MBP, but those are upgradable but not cheap and not easy.

Basically don't plan on upgrading either one after you buy.

To my understanding SSD is soldered on the motherboard on new Macbooks (2016-2017) so it is NOT upgradable. The same is RAM - you can't basically upgrade anything in 2016 macbooks and up. Last 'upgradable' macbook line was 2015.

Just looked it up, tear downs confirm RAM is soldered but SSD is not. It's very very hard to get to the SSD + no one makes SSDs that are compatible with the new MBPs anyways. So basically, both RAM and SSD should be considered not replaceable.

Actually, the SSD is easily removeable on 2016 and 2017 macbook pros. You can check the macsales/owc website for more info. The problem is finding an ssd replacement that is compatible. Give it a few months, so I'm told.

RAM is soldered on 2016 and 2017 pros tho.

On 2016 and 2017 RAM and SSDs are soldered on all 13' and 15" touch bar models. The no touch bar 13" has replaceable SSD but it is proprietary so the only way to upgrade it is with one removed from another machine.

Thanks for the info guys. Who's the heck came up with the idea to use the proprietary connection for ssd?!? Why didn't they use just common m2? Oh well, I just hope samsung and other companies will start making it. But if it is copyrighted it might not happen ever Frown
