a review:

CLEANING ALGORITHM: So is the ION actually good at cleaning? Yes and no. It does a good job and is more thorough in smaller spaces (you can create boundaries using the included BotBoundary Strips), but if you let it try to clean an entire floor, it may not be as thorough. This is largely because the ION's path algorithm isn't as complex as more expensive robot vacuums, as it doesn't seem to map out your house. Instead, its cleaning path will differ each run so that it will attempt to clean areas that it did not cover the previous run. Obviously, this isn't as effective as mapping out the house and having complex object detection to further determine its position around the house. As a result, the cleaning path is somewhat random, so your carpet won't have a nice pattern of track marks—rather, it will seem obscure and random. Regardless, each run I am finding plenty of lint and dust being picked up by my ION. And by scheduling a daily cleaning, you'll ensure a more thorough clean. When a cleaning session begins, the ION runs for about one hour. Given that the charge time is about 3 hours, this means you could theoretically run a full 1-hour cleaning session approximately 6 times in a 24 hour period—now that's impressive, albeit not recommended.

I don't know much about Shark's robot vacuums. The only thing I remember is that their mapping isn't excellent.

A iRobot Roomba 695 - practically the same as the 690 - is en route to me for effectively the same price. I gotta make a decision about which to keep.

Good price but I think I'd want the ones that map and have wifi. I'm still thinking about it. Good find.

You're welcome!

My wife has been talking about wanting a Roomba for a long time. I kept telling her the cheap ones were not that good. The reviews on this seem pretty good, doubt I'll ever use the app though.

I think this is the best Robot Vacuum deal so far. Reviews are pretty good on this machine and it comes to $210 + tax.

I went ahead and ordered this. If anything better in the next few days, I can return this in store.

Read some more reviews on this and it seems solid. I think it is comparable to the 800 series on Roomba which, if true, makes this a sweet deal.

I'm in the same boat as you two. I purchased the iRobot Roomba 695 a couple days ago, but I think I'm going to return it as soon as it arrives. This Shark ION ROBOT 750 seems to be better in virtually every way, and it seems to rival the 800 Roomba series.

I've wanted a robot vacuum for a while, and decided that I'd get one this Black Friday. I originally was going for the 960C at Costco or the 980, but couldn't justify the cost because I'll be doing manual vacuuming anyway and just want something to run automatically a few times a week to pick up my two cats' fur.

If you two change your mind, please let me know! My vacuum is ready for pickup, but I am letting it sit there for another couple days.

Thanks!

Any thoughts on the Hoover Quest 1000 for $279.99 at BJs.com? (There's free shipping and no sales tax for me, so it's actually only a difference of $42.70 for me between the Hoover and Shark.)

The Hoover retailed at $699.99 when it was released almost a year ago and its price has dropped drastically. It comes with mapping, which very few reputable, sub-$500 robot vacuums includes.

It has a rating of 3.8 stars out of 5 stars, based very few 35 Amazon.com customer reviews [amazon.com]. I started reading some non-Amazon reviews and they look promising. A good detailed review that doesn't seem biased is available at Reviewed.com [reviewed.com]; it's interesting because the review was written when the product was $699.99, so the reviewer compared it to the Dyson 360 Eye, the Neato Botvac Connected, and the iRobot 980.

I bought the iLife A4S Amazon deal a couple days ago for $135. Does anyone think it's worth returning for this?

For what it's worth we've had the Shark Ion 750 for a month or so. It is scheduled to run 3 days a week and has kept the level it's on (1000sq ft) debris free. It navigates our hardwood floors, carpet, and throw rugs just fine but the algorithms that run it aren't very advanced. It pretty much just finds its way around randomly. My only complaint is that long hair does get caught in the roller. All this said- I think it's a great deal at the price point.
