Cant say if it's decent but the product specs seem to indicate it is pen enabled.

Yes looks like 2dimms. Can't find max RAM on the product specs page though.

I'm also curious as to what the differences between the 5000 and 7000 line are, because Dell's Ebay page as a 7000 w/ an 8TH gen Core i5 for $25 less. Slower processor yes, but better build quality/feature set?

I've never been able to discern a difference either. Google searches are mostly fruitless also. I think base model 5000 vs 7000 has differences in RAM and processor but once customized maybe basically the same.

On a different thread someone mentioned the 7000 is made with more metal materials vs plastic. Also in case you didn't notice, this is 2 different screen sizes.

I am also digging into these two... Google search didn't return much stuff about Inspiron 13 one. But based on spec, 13" cpu is I7 (faster?) and also much lighter (3.72lb vs 4.98lb) rests like Memory, graphics are pretty much the same

Smaller form factor for 5000 and larger "gaming" like frames for 7000.
Screen sizes follow those trends too.... generally

Looks like a good option although Lenovo yoga 720 for $700 from BestBuy may be more durable (and lighter). Better CPU here though!

I spent probably 6 hours scouring the web and this site for 13-14" mid-high end laptops and I'm still not 100% sure why this and similar deals are not getting much attention.

I'll venture two guesses:

1) Dell really fudged up the Inspiron line of PC's. Back when I was headed to college in 2002, I saved all my money, spent hours researching, and found that the best bang for my buck was an Inspiron. It had better than average form factor (look/quality of materials/etc), and had some of the best configurations available from any name brand company. Since then, they've added a few new lines of laptops, and now everyone is obsessed with the XPS (rightly so, they are beautiful machines), and the pre-built config's weren't that idea. Dell has always been big on setting high MSRP and then everyone has to play the coupon and cash back game (PITA, if you ask me).

2) You have to understand how SD works now a days. All users are considered equal, I've been here for over 10 years and have over 4,000 posts. And even though I might browse 100 posts a week, I'll only give one or two thumbs up, and those are usually only to the true SLICK deals. Then you have the shill accounts or newbies who don't know a slick deal from a can of paint, they thumb up/down all sorts of crap and it counts just the same as a seasoned veteran.

Sorry to be so long winded in my answer, hopefully you get point. TLBig GrinR - There's not much info on this particular model. However, the specs/price/retailer all look great to me. 13" 8th gen i7 < $700 from microsoft with free returns, makes this a no brainer. I'm buying one now and if I don't like it, I'll simply return it and move on.

Looks like the price dropped to $600 just now. I echo Inspiron comment above, my old laptop is Inspiron and while spec wise it was good deal, quality of hardware was not perfect and it developed issues after a while. Just look at one of the two reviews there.
