The number of DV discs is very low at this point.

The Xbox one S was needed for me anyway (a nice side grade from the OG Xbone, cost me about $50 after I got $150 from GameStop for the old one).

I've owned Oppo before (one of the famous DVD players back in the day with the Faroudja deinterlacer).

But $500? For like the maybe 15 UHD discs we have? I don't think I even have a Dolby Vision disc yet.

The S is a very good player, any weird issues it has once in a while (occasional stuttering) clear up with a reboot.

$170-> $500 isn't a little more, it's $330 more... basically triple the cost.

Like the OLED, the bang/buck is outta whack, but with the OLED I got stunning blacks, viewing angle, and lack of motion blur. With the Oppo I get...DV and a tiny bit of subjectively better video quality? Unlike in the DVD era there's not even any deinterlacing tests or the like for a huge objectively measurable difference.

The S does the job for now, saves me using another HDMI port on my reciever (already have 6/7 used), and it like 90% as good as a dedicated player.

Why not go with an Xbox one S if you're spending $170+?

Completely agree, got mine back around $200 with the 2 free 4K movies rebate attached, absolutely worth it

My comment was more around the fact that this is SD not AVS Forum...people here analyze everything from price per sheet of toilet paper down to a fraction of a cent. If someone wants a 4K blu-ray player and wants the lowest price possible, going to be tough to find a lower price than this

I prefer the Sony UBP-X800 to this, but this price is incredibly low and tough to ignore. This feels FP to me easily

Does this one have noise issues when playing 4k disc. Some LG 4k players have the problem.

That's a good price. Bestbuy has the slightly upgraded UP875 for $99, but neither of these has 12 bit Dolby Vision HDR like the UP970, only HDR10.

The X800 is a MUCH better player than this. If someone needs to save every dollar possible, $85 is about as low as I've ever seen. But the reviews are very bad - they say it's unreliable and freezes. It has virtually no extras.

Strange, my link showed $149 but now it shows $198 for the X800. It's worth it, though - outstanding player.

The X800 is on sale for only $149 right now at B&H. I own it and love it. I paid $200 and it's worth every penny of that.

It was on sale back back up to $200 at most places now.

You're right (which is why I didn't mention the fact that the X800 is a universal player which plays my SACD and DVD-AUDIO music nod). I would still be hesitant with the reliability issues, though - nobody wants their player to freeze or be unable to play a disk. And 4k players are still mostly owned by people willing to pay for better equipment, at least within reason.

I think we're on the same page. It's a great price, but not a great player, and some people will appreciate how cheap it is and be happy with it.

This player is terrible. The Sony at $149 is rock solid , totally silent. For once the best deal is not the cheapest

I bought this at bestbuy and had to return it. I experienced hdmi drop out 3 to 5 seconds where my screen was completely black. Bought another Blu-ray player and no problem since ( I used the same hdmi cable so it's not an hdmi cable issue)

Got an xbox one s as well. This is just a more convenient and better player (and my Xbox one player sounded like a wind turbine when reading UHD). I stop using my Xbox one s as a player.

I think this was a "Black Friday Special" cut-down model. In particular, I believe it has no wi-fi. Pretty sad, IMHO.

Been contemplating the same thing but I'm not ready for 4k movies until they come down in price more often than BF.
