A7rII/sII Body for $2050 or less via greentoe.com [greentoe.com]

My offer of 2050 was accepted and I've heard of offers as low as 1975 getting picked up recently as well.

A little more, but comes from a US authorized seller with warranty, etc.

True with lenses but 70% more in cost is a different story on a camera body when the IQ is almost identical (same 42.2MP sensor). I have an A7R2 and an A9 and was thinking of replacing the A7R2 with the A7R3 but instead I got another A7R2. (I will use the extra A7R2 just for video). I have learned to accept the limitation of the camera and adapted just as I have accepted the awkward interface. I A7R3 is an improvement that address a lot of our concerns but they can be overcome by changing shooting style. You are not going to get a vastly better IQ over the A7R2 especially if you're just shooting portrait or landscape. The improved 10fps vs 5fps is great but my A9 doubles that. The joystick, awesome but I have changed my shooting style to do without. Battery life another easy fix and I never had overheating issue. The autofocus is better on the A7R3 but not enough of a jump.
If you don't need the faster fps, and shoot portraits that's not fast moving the A7R2 at this extremely low price is well worth it. Spend the extra money on the best native lens.
Get the Zeiss or GM lens, those will hold their value and when the next A7 or A9 series comes out you still got an awesome lens to go with it.
Obviously money is a big driver when choosing any major purchases. If you can afford it, A7R3 but if you're on the fence you won't be disappointed with the A7R2 at this price point. The A7R3 will not go down in price for at least a year. The A7R2 will not go that much lower just as you see Canon 5DM3 vs 5DM4. This isn't like a 5DM4 vs 6DM2. The IQ is 99% identical with almost the same dynamic range and this camera has one of the best dynamic range only second to D850 (by DxO). Full Frame cameras hold their value in the long term. Just my 2 cents.

you're talking about a $1300 difference! I would be very skeptical if a camera that cost nearly 70% more wasn't better

the a7r3 IS better -- in just about every way.

from experience, it's better to invest in something more expensive than realize later on that the "cheaper" (even if by $1300) isn't worth dealing with. you'll feel good at first that you saved so much money, but after getting used to it and realizing the limitations, you'll probably end up replacing it anyways. it happened with me when i bought so many lenses at the "cheaper" price, and i ended up spending more money on the better ones =\

Sony Alpha a7R II Mirrorless Digital Camera
Description
With a world's first full-frame 42.4-megapixel Exmor R back-illuminated structure CMOS sensor, the Alpha a7R II Mirrorless Digital Camera from Sony is prepared to take mirrorless imaging to another level. This sensor design both improves low-light operation and speeds up data throughout, enabling fast high-resolution stills and UHD 4K video recording. Working with the BIONZ X image processor, these images can be produced at sensitivities up to ISO 102,400 and at a continuous 5 fps shooting rate. Five-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization has also been implemented, compensating for vertical, horizontal, pitch, yaw, and roll movements.

it's imported model but from reputable dealer with good feedback. Just want to share and still learning.

wow.... tempted, but i don't know, the issues keeping me away are still there. the a7r3 fixed many of them. the size of the camera grip, the battery life duration, and the 4k overheating.... but at 1300 more, i don't know if i can justify the a7r3 with the same sensor as this.

tempted. If it had the 10% ebay points, or something, but, i just cant... at 1699 I'm in I think.
It has never been under 2k for a new one. I don't think it will go lower as A7ii refurbs are selling out at 1200-1300.

From DP Review on version 3 the improvements look worth waiting for

https://m.dpreview.com/reviews/so...iii-review

HOWEVER, version 3 eats "stars" in astrophotography exposures of longer than 4 sec with the spatial filtering.... no work around in that issue. A few good discussions online recently on star eating problem. So if astrophotography is one's game then get version 2 of this body.

I'd just be wary of purchasing grey market anything at these prices. I'm not sure if Sony will service it if/when it breaks.

Great price overall - considering used is running around that price. However, I don't know what Sony's policy is on grey market. Many companies are starting to get more strict on even servicing them - see Sigma who is now charging a fee ($150 ish?) before even looking at your grey market glass!

if all you do is take pictures of stars, might be an issue.
but for everyday user or vlogger, it is already good enough.

a7r-mark-iii definitely on my shopping list .
