I believe this one is more reliable though? I have been close to pulling the trigger on the firecuda several times but have been hesitant because of the reviews. Any opinions? I'm using this as a primary drive in a laptop so it needs to be pretty reliable.

I threw the firecuda into my PS4 when it was on sale earlier this year. For such a cheap investment it was a huge difference in some games.

I highly recommend getting the firecuda over this for a Ps4 unless space is a huge thing for you. since 2TB is about 100 dollars for the firecuda.

I don't think this would be more reliable than the Firecuda 2TB. As a primary drive the Firecuda might also be a little faster because it uses flash memory to speed up load times.

There's no publicly available hard data on this, but at worst maybe the Firecuda has a higher initial dud rate (ie, it's dead on arrival), but I'm pretty skeptical that past the initial duds it would be any less reliable than this.

Also keep in mind that Seagate only has a 2 year warranty on this drive, but offers a 5 year warranty on the Firecuda. If anything, that points to the Firecuda having better long-term reliability.

I'd shove this in a PS3 more than a PS4, honestly. It'd improve system performance dramatically

How so? I've never heard of HDDs improving PS3 performance.

I purchased a standard 2TB Seagate external back in 2014 for $80. Removed the 2.5 inch drive from the case and installed it in my then new PS4. Still running strong today. In fact, after a recent firmware update, I noticed a significant performance improvement with navigating the home screen menus.

I'm going to soon be transferring the drive into my new PS4 Pro. Is there anything I should do with it before installing? Or will the Pro handle everything upon first boot? (besides having the latest firmware on a thumb drive in the USB port)

Because of the 128gb SSD cache. An SSD will improve the performance navigating around the system, some load times, etc.
