You're under the assumption that a Windows laptop is superior to a Chromebook. For most people, a Chromebook will do everything they need. The benefit you get is security, battery life, and speed. No $290 windows laptop is going to come close to the speed of a Chromebook.

I can give a Chromebook to my grandparents and not have to worry. If I gave them a Windows laptop, from experience, I'd need to regularly fix it for them.

This is geared toward people who don't need all of the features of a regular laptop and find value in speed and portability. Chromebooks can do basically everything an Android tablet can and a lot of what a laptop can.

Personally I have an old laptop that I can use if I need to, but for 99% of my daily computer use, this Chromebook fits the bill. It can browse the web, download movies, stream to my TV, use Google Play apps. All much quicker than a $289 laptop.

$289 will only get you a crappy laptop. This Chromebook is a pretty good value relative to other Chromebooks.

lost me - "MediaTek MT8173 Core Pilot Quad-Core Heterogeneous Multi-Processor", not worth the price.

The mediatek processor in this is actually quite decent and efficient. The R13 is a fantastic Chromebook for this price.

I personally wanted something a bit more powerful as I plan on using crouton as well so I grabbed the Asus C302CA from yesterday's Amazon deal, but that's an extra $100-$150 comparatively.

9900 octane score isn't bad and full HD screen. Kind of big for use in tablet mode. With the $25 off coupon makes it a reasonable price with Costco's unmatched return policy and extended warranty.

This was a good compromise in price and quality for me. I've been looking at Chromebooks for a while and didn't want a 11" 720p screen, but I also did not want to pay $450 For the Samsung Chromebook Plus.

This one comes out to $280 shipped so I am happy.

Seriously, you can get a full Windows laptop at this price and do more than web browsing. These Chromebooks are way overpriced.

Is there a windows laptop that is a touchscreen at this price? Plus Chromebooks are what a lot of schools are using around here. Perfect for middle school and early high school kids. I picked up the other 2-in-1 deal at Costco last week for them.

Remember if you use a Citi Costco Visa, you get an extra two years warranty on top of that.

That's what I meant by "unmatched extended warranty". What sucks is that business membership only gets 1 year extended warranty. So I pay twice as much for membership for half the warranty extension.

How do you mean? I'm a business executive member at Costco I still get the two years extended warranty with my Costco Visa plus the extra year Costco gives, total of 4 years.
