I got the HP - seems like they would go with a better OEM supplier than this one.

HP and "better" should never go together. The company is a criminal Enterprise. Primary business is printers and computers. Woah, dude, I'm not a babe in the woods. I look at individual products and not brand loyal. This particular SSD is what's on topic. In that angle every corporate is evil.
