Phucket! I'm in.

I prefer to stay in Phucket town than Phucket beach. Thais versus drunk farang.

I just returned from Thailand. I highly recommend going to phi phi island if you are in phuket city. food is cheap, lots of stuff to see and do such as snorkeling, beach, monkey beach, canoeing, renting private long tail boat for tour of all the islands.

stay away from the tourist trap and you can easily eat very good for cheap. Example, 3 main entrees, 2 coconut, 2 beers, 2 desert all for $7-8. 3-4 star hotel can run you about $35. or you can opp for tourist traps and pay $150-500+ for a room. Boat to phi phi island can cost about $8-24 (depending on company) or speed boat for around $50.

Just an FYI. Winter is rainy season in this area and dry up near Koh Samui. In the summer it is reversed.
