Just lost one of these to the wind. In for 1. Advice: don't fly above roofline. I flew mine up about 30' Up and 50' out, in a light headwind. I tried bringing it in, but the more I decreased the pitch, and added throttle, the higher my elevation got until it was out of my control. And stopped responding. It's in a neighbors yard now lol. Great drone, good for in the house or in your yard, but do not get vertical above your roofline or you might not see it again.

need better skills I go over roof line all the time.... and setting the speed on high always has enough power to fight wind towards where I need to go.

Set the speed on high? There is an on/off switch, that's all I see. And I'm not sure how my skills can come into play when I'm steering it toward me with the gas all the way up and it keeps blowing up and away. And like I said, the air was pretty still at ground level. I love the drone, enough to buy another even though I have a DJI Mavic.

I'm no expert. I bought this drone last Saturday and I've been flying it as much as possible since. But I'm still a noob for sure. I just didn't see any way this would've been pilot error. Unless the error is not knowing the capabilities of the drone, which is what I was warning against.

the speed change is on the control read instructions, definitely pilot error not knowing capabilities of his machine. You don't jump on freeway and stay on 1st shift and blame the car for NOT going fast enough.

Dear New Drone Pilots: If your drone is getting away from you, cut the throttle Smilie Gravity always wins.

This is a excellent drone to learn with before moving up with the big dogs.

I have taken mine super high also. I fly it until you can't even barely see it anymore and the transmitter starts cutting out. You are on point about the different speeds, it makes a tremendous difference in performance. The fast setting makes it feel like a totally different quad to me, you can really get it zippin around.

To toggle between Low and High speed modes, press the button on the upper left of the transmitter.

I found it by accident on mine. I didn't know it existed for months. Like Lakemurray said, it is the silver button on the top left of the controller. The high speed mode is fun to go crazy with.

On the product page one of the pictures shows someone with a smartphone and it says, "one button take off". I was not aware it has one button take off or that it can be controlled with a smartphone. Anyone know what's up with both of those things and if it actually has those features? Is there an updated model of the X5SW? I just checked again and the description says controllable with an Android smartphone.
