I bought the 55" Hisense from best buy a few months ago. 2016 model. Has HDR. It's the same panel, just so you know. You want to avoid the 8HC model. this is the 5060H or something like that.

What's wrong with the 8HC (H8C?) model? Seems like rtings said it was quite good:

The panels are nearly identical, but supposedly it was a software issue that prevented the HDR from being utilized without a firmware upgrade. Plus, for nearly identical sets, the H8C was like $125 more at the time (june/july 2017). If you search for the last 55" Hisense deal from around that time (~$400), you'll see the comment threads saying that people would get the wrong models from Best Buy when they went in to ask for them and they'd pay a different price for less capability. The comments go pretty deep, but it's worth the read for anyone who doesn't have a 55" yet.

Low HDR brightness, narrow color gamut, PWM flicker, high input lag in all 4K modes, judder from 24Hz sources... I feel like even at this price point surely there's a better option (this is assuming that the H8C's panel is similar to the 6D's as BostonBatman said)?

The model I linked to is the 2017 model. It is the best of the best and you are a fool to say otherwise. The HDR is epic.

You know what the phrase "best of the best" actually means, right? I don't think I'm the fool here.

Was it this thread? Only saw a report from a review on the site, not anyone in the comments who received the wrong model.

Also tried searching the other threads without much info:

That's the thread and deal I bought. Fantastic panel, seamless Hdmi 2.0 support, and HDR on the PS4 with no issues. I like that you can also mess with the video and audio settings and save them to specific inputs rather than having to constantly changes between modes anytime you want to swap between netflix (the built in app) and the ps4.

One other benefit to note, the tv has a dual band ac router built in, meaning you can connect the tv to 5GHz wifi channels. This is important for those of us who only have the original 1080p PS4 and no separate bluray player but want to watch the 4k UHD Netflix shows. Over a 5GHz connection, they stream seamlessly and it's fantastic. The built in apps are actually decent on this model and I highly endorse it.

If $800 is your budget the TCL 55P605 blows this out of the water. $599 at Best Buy.

This might be the best sub-$350 TV right now, but if you think it's the single best TV available for under $800 you're crazy. Do some research before making such broad claims.

I'm not trying to argue facts, but in my personal experience, the lag difference and gamma were negligible when testing these out in store (between the TCL and my Hisense model). Many threads have said the panels are identical (RCA panels as well). The main difference was the brightness was slightly better on the TCL. Now, was is $200 better? No way. It was just slightly more poppy in the bright store lighting, but as I've said before, the Hisense I bought is magical in my apartment, even with the windows open and the lights on. I think it comes down to user preference. Also, in using both menus, I find i have more options and advanced user settings in the Hisense, which can correct for most of the issues you would find. With intelligent ambient lighting, everything will seem brighter because the TV will actively change the brightness to compensate. That is the one feature that is missing from the hisense but absolutely one I can do without.
