What's an easy way to get rid of all those Visa Debit cards we get back from rebates?

I saw this question in the forums but it was from 2011 and I'd like to bring it up again as I've been getting a lot of these Visa Debit cards which are a pain in the butt to use. Has anybody found a good way of using them? I'd like to take them all to my bank - would they take them? Thanks.

The instructions on these cards specifically say you have to select "credit" when swiping at a gas station. Then because it is processed as a credit card, it tries to put a temporary hold on the card for a value greater than what you were going to pump. To get past that, I have to go inside and ask for this small amount of money and then go back out outside and pump just that amount. As you can guess, I'm looking for some easier way to use these up. Yes I have been purchasing Amazon gift cards for exactly the amount of the card. Just a lot of work (you also have to register each one of these cards with Visa too!) and was looking for something a little simpler.

Give it a try. The pump will likely determine the card balance and stop automatically when it's used up. Despite the instructions, what you said is generally not true anymore, but YMMV.

- Not on all cards, it depends. You always get a pin assigned when you activate most of the cards, which means, pin can be used while making purchases as debit(doesn't work for cash withdrawal of course)

I have always used my rebate cards(master/visa from Newegg, master from Tmobile) at 76/chevron with no problems. It just exhausts all the balance on my card and stop fueling when done.

I usually add them to my Amazon balance, but Target stores are my 2nd go to. If you swipe in the target stores the exact amount of the Visa card gets applied and then you can pay the left over balance as another method.

This, or you can go inside and specify the prepaid amount with the cashier. You can also PayPal the amount to yourself by creating a "donation" link on their site.

i use them to pre-pay my tmobile bill or verizon bill.
I charge the exact amount of the card balance to my account - no problems.
These are also places where I rarely get credit card bonuses from using some other card - unlike gas and amazon.

Can't seem to use it for an amazon reload. Amazon automatically detects the card as a debit card and there's no way for me to change it.

At least for Mastercard debit promotional cards I got,
Walmart self-checkout machines seem to accept the Debit cards too, as debit and without requiring a PIN, too! ...at least for the instance that I tried it.
I was also able to use it shopping for groceries on H-Mart, 99 Ranch, etc.

Doesn't that have a fee per donation transaction [paypal.com] though?

Yes. But then begs the question, how to avoid account suspension for violating Paypal's policy? They're a financial institution with no regulation, as such will limit even legitimate fundraisers with impunity. Termination is likely unless you fight tooth and nail.

I received a $20 Mastercard Newegg rebate and tried to convert it to an Amazon gift card. Amazon puts a $1 hold on the card and so $19 is only available. Am I destined to lose a $1 in converting this. I know $1 isn't that big of a deal, but it's annoying that I just can't charge the whole thing.

same here, i just spent 5 visa debit card to prepay by ATT bill. Just have to enter the 16 digits card number, zip code and security code and I can throw the card away once the transaction is done.

I don't use visa debit for gas or food because i can get better CB & rebate with my credit card
