I've been playing for a few months. I like it. It's not a typical MMO, you can literally get lost in space...it's a full-scale Milky Way. I play in solo and open play, the cool thing is...your progress saves the same in both. You don't have to see another soul if you don't want to, but it gets lonely out in the black.

You guys are both selling yourself short. If you don't want to play with other players, you can either play in Solo, or in private with your friends. I play Only In solo and private, and I found nothing but enjoyment out of this game. There is a steep learning curve, this is definitely more simulator than the typical Plug and Play game, but if that's your thing, this game is truly amazing. It has its flaws, and there's an element of role-playing that can be overwhelming at times, but overall this game is extremely entertaining if space flight Sims are what you're after, especially at this price.

Really want this (for pc) but friend says to not bother, it's pretty much an MMO with a bunch of tards ruining things for others like you'd expect in any MMO. Although great in VR mode (on pc)

Ive heard similar things. Its also got a pretty steep learning curve especially if sim flying games arent your thing. I played the tutorial for a while and gave up when i absolutely could not land on the pad in the space station. I suck at flying and have no patience apparently . I wish that werent the case because the game seems great when I watch footage of it.

Anyone know if the account/characters are universal or is it separate on each console?

I bought ED on launch day on pc. It is majorly a simulation game. Everything from having to hail a station and land on specific landing pads. That said, its really fun. I have a decent ship with lander and I have explored tons of different galaxies. There are random things you can encounter like aliens and such. As far as the people ruining it I am not sure. If you stay in the starting galaxy area maybe some dogfights but if they start messing with you, you can switch to solo mode and move then go back online. I actually enjoyed going around the galaxy trading and making money. 20$ is a for sure if you like flying and sims.

Not everyone is shiny but remember a captain's job is simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.
