It's DDR4 again. A shame DDR3 deals are so few and far between.

Thankfully I'm stocked up on DDR3 ram. Got 2 computers with 16gb (4-4gb each). I doubt I'll ever need more than that before I leave the DDR3 motherboards behind.

Have a nice supply of DDR1 + 2 as well. I try and salvage tech from old computer I find on craigslist.
Sometimes I strike gold. Some guy was selling a Dell GX 620 on craigs for $20. He said he had removed the ram and hard drive. I told him I'd give him $5 and explained why. He accepted it. When I went there, not only did it have 4gb of DDR2 ram, but it also had 2 hard drives, 1 1800gb and the other 500gb.

Oddly I don't have any DDR4 ram at the moment as I have no desire to replace my DDR3 systems. Maybe I can last until DDR5.

Nice! What are you using the DDR1s and 2s for? I wish there was a way to repurpose obsolescent memory and other components for state-of-the-art PC builds.

Every once in a while I like to have pet side projects. Build a computer based around this or based around that.
A while back I built the ultimate Dell Dimension 4600. Threw in a 3.4 Pentium 4, 4gb of DDR1 Ram, and the best agp card I could find (and I think there ever was) a 1gb Radeon HD 4670.

And sometimes I build up a computer I get off craigslist, give it some love, and then sell it off. Not so much to make $$$ (I sell mostly for breaking even than profit unless I got the parts at a steal), but for the experience, for the fun of it as a hobby.

I'm checking out a Dell 760 mini tower tmmr. For $20, I get the tower, a keyboard, and monitor. I'll take the monitor and keyboard and throw that along with a Dell Optiplex 755 I'm selling (which I have a modded Xenon Socket 771 chip in the Socket 775 motherboard) to sweeten the deal. Then I'll mess around with the tower and just sell that off. I can get $20 easy. So no real cost to me. My craigslist add normally insult all the other people selling on the site. There are some damn hilarious and criminal prices up there.

I just like trying new things

My next side project is leaning towards building the most powerful single core computer I can. RandomGamingHD game the idea. Though I'm mixed between a true single core, or a single core that has HT.

And my 2nd stash of DDR3 ram came in really handful when I built my cousin a cheap gaming computer on the fly.
I picked up that super cheap AM3+ motherboard and FX8320e deal at Microcenter. $65 after tax and rebates is a steal. AM4 is the way to go...unless you don't want to buy DDR4 ram and happen to have compatible 16gb of DDR3. We are working on overclocking that thing right now. It's at 4ghz right now.
