I just got a used sp4 to replace my sp2. I wanted the surface book, but the tablet only has 2hr battery and no usb ports.

Damn. I just bought the i5 version of this with no graphics for 799 + 100 GC on Black Friday (Newegg Flash). Might have bought this instead. Is it worth it to return and get this instead? How much more performance are we talking? I only play games like Civ or Europa Universalis if I even play anymore

Do you regularly use it without the base? I bought one of the cheap dell surface book clones that were on sale a few months ago and found the only time I disconnect the base is to show people stuff. I tried getting by without the base, but using Windows without a keyboard and touchpad/mouse felt like trying to type up a document only using one finger.

Mehhh. Previous deal had had the i7, 16GB, 512GB with performance base for around $1500.

I wouldn't consider purchasing without the performance base. The extra power and 4-5 additional hours of battery life is a big boost. You cant buy the performance base separately.
