RMA Western Digital

311 34 November 30, 2017 at 03:43 PM
was wondering how strict are WD on RMA for shucked drives?
i have a WD drive here i got from ebay that shows as in warranty but also describes it as "MyBook" which makes me think it has been shucked from an external hard drive case.
i thought i snuck one past them last year like this but havent tried for some time.

I understand wanting to know in advance what might happen but what do you have to loose if you send it in? Presumably the drive has failed or is failing. They will either accept it and send you a refurb or reject it and your out a few bucks for shipping. Try searching https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/ and I bet someone will have posted about it before.

I've seen people post that they sent in a bare shucked drive and got a bare drive back. Probably all depends on the employee that deals with it.. I think it's completely YMMV.
