If you are just airing tires it would be fine. Have you looked at the 3gal one on sale at harbor freight for $40? It would probably suit your purpose.

Most car tires should be fine maintaining with. Anything more, like nearly flat tires or low pickup tires, may require multiple tank refills before you can finish airing it. It would not be recommended to keep the chuck on either after the pressure drops to much as you could cause the compressor to run to long.
