Why the downvotes? Is this phone compatible with Samsung Pay over WiFi?

Probably because with 1gb of RAM, a low end processor, a low-res screen, and Android 5.0 this thing is basically an obsolete piece of junk right out of the box.

And, no. Samsung Pay uses MST/NFC, and requires Knox. This has none of those.

Thanks for the insights. Does the Pay app work at all without these technologies? I mean on the phone itself, not necessarily in-store for POS purchases. I'm mainly interested in the point-earning promotions and in-app discounts on gift cards, etc. that don't require in-store use.

Great question but unfortunately I don't know. I would assume that at minimum it would require the Knox chip for security as
Samsung Pay will not work even on supported devices if it's been disabled.

Looks like the older 2016 J1 version did have it as it's on the Samsung list but this 2017 is not.
