I've owned this trash can since Christmas last year. Recently, the lid fails to close all the way. It only closes about halfway before stopping. If I push the close button, it closes all the way (but not when it auto closes using the sensor).

The only way to use it as a regular trash can is to prop the lid open or remove it entirely.

The lid started to do that for me. After analyzing it, I found that the moving parts started to get gummed down with garbage gunk.

I cleaned what I could with Lysol wipes, blew some duster to clear out the remainder and then added shedder oil (any clean machine oil would do) into the moving parts/hinges. Started moving smoothly and closing fully again.

If the sensor stops working one day, can you use it as a regular trash can?

yes, you can manually open and close the lid.. Been doing that for a while with the one we have, might be time to get another, wish I could just replace the top portion, the can is still in great shape.

I have 2 of these that I've had for almost 2 years with no issues. One actually fell out of the truck when I was moving (going 65mph). It got a little bent up, but still works fine. The lid is a little tight now.

I have one for almost 2 years. No issues whatsoever. I love it that my little girl can throw garbage in without having to make physical contact with the trash can.

You can use a metal hook on the lid to use it like a regular one.
