PSA: Local Police Stations accept package deliveries for you for free. 24 hour access.

No need to play tag with your UPS/Fedex dude. Check to see if your local police station will accept packages for you. Some even have 24 hour access so even better than the Post Office. It's free.

On a related note, many police stations also let you use them as Craigslist meeting points. So no need to let that sketchy kid in with his two friend posse into your house. Meet at the cops.

I believe you can also hold packages at local post office and FedEx or UPS locations

yeah your mail carrier can hold all of your packages at the post office for 30 days at a time. In fact... packages are crazy right now so i fully suggest putting your mail on hold and picking it up if you are out a lot when we would usually be leaving packages out in the open by your door.

That article is about a town with a population of around 60,000 people. 99% of police stations will laugh at you if you ask them to hold your packages.

I'd rather avoid contact with the police. I don't want to be questioned what's in every package. And no, you don't have to be a criminal to prefer minimal contact with "law enforcement" - after all, they consider everyone not in a blue costume a "suspect."

If your package security is that much of a concern, get a PO Box, and use the Street Addressing feature for UPS and FedEx packages. The Post Office will hold them for you.

Like they say, "guilty until proven innocent" and that's for everything.

If your local police have time to handle your packages, I'd question your taxes and how they're being WASTED!

and if you have packages stolen off your porch, I'd question the neighborhood you live in, and why you don't have enough sense to find a more secure option on YOUR dime.

Which is the truth in many laws as well. I don't how this old wive's tale of "innocent until proven guilty" got started. People watching too many movies perhaps.

Such an ignorant comment.

Packages being stolen off doorsteps, especially during the holidays, is an issue everywhere. The police are simply trying to be proactive by saving potential headache and resources rather than doing nothing and having to deal with pissed off people filing police reports. Letting citizens pick up a few packages at the station is a far, far smarter use of time and money than dealing with and having to file reports later on.

While I agree with others that those concerned about theft should really have have their packages held at USPS/UPS/FedEX, not everyone has a UPS/FedEx pickup location nearby.

Not everywhere has an issue with package theft, if everywhere did, the police would be handling more than a "few" packages.
Everywhere that has a police station has a Post office...

"Such an ignorant comment." (So you're just gonna parrot me? How creative of you.)

"Not everywhere has an issue with package theft, if everywhere did, the police would be handling more than a "few" packages." (Always love this way of thinking: If an issue doesn't affect me personally, it doesn't exist at all. And I specifically said a "few" because something like this isn't going to be well advertised or taken advantage of.)

"Everywhere that has a police station has a Post office..." (Exactly why I said not everyone has a local UPS/FedEx pickup location and didn't mention USPS. Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit is it?)
