Nest Thermostat Question

I installed it myself, and while going through setup it only showed me 4 wires detected. I connected 5. Is that bad? Or is it only supposed to show 4?

Take and post some pictures. My guess would be that one of the wires isn't connected at the furnace.

Why do conservative politicians oppose conservation?
Have you ever stopped to think the long-term GOP immigration policy might be to make the United States of America a less desirable place to live than Mexico?

Depends on your system which you haven't mentioned. Ecobee gives you labels to use before you disconnect, don't recall if Nest does that too. You are supposed to document all wire connections before uninstalling the old thermostat. Worst case scenario you will have to go to your unit, heating/cooling/etc, and see how the wires are connected. And yes, it is possible that not all wires are being used.

Thanks. It was the furnace wire that got undone somehow while I was putting the face on. I tucked it in a little more and it now detects it no problem.

Yeah the Nest Install is pretty simple I have had the same thing happen. I have installed different NEST thermostats probably 15 times and have had the same thing happen to me.
