Verizon Wireless - $200 MasterCard for BYOD port over

+4 Deal Score

Verizon Wireless is currently offering port over customers who bring their own device a $200 MasterCard prepaid card until tomorrow, December 3. I just did this today since I am not interested in purchasing new phones.

Not sure if this is a good deal but I figured I would post it in case anyone is interested.

The terms indicate for select smartphones and an eligible plan. However, neither I nor the rep at the corporate store could identify what the exclusions might be.

The rep at the corporate store thought the promotion applies to any smartphone that works on Verizon but you might want to try confirming yourself. I needed to switch some lines to Verizon anyway so I figured it was worth a try to get the prepaid card.

Thanks to those that posted the terms below.

Crap, looks like deal is dead, or at least less generous. Now through the end of the year it's down to $100 when you BYOD.

Keep in mind this REQUIRES a port of a number from another carrier (e.g. not simply adding a line with your own device). Also keep in mind that any ported phone that doesn't have CDMA radio will only support 4G and probably limited frequencies. Verizon 4G coverage is pretty good but drive into rural areas you likely see 4G drop and without 3G (CDMA) as a backup will likely lose coverage.
