Second time posting here. YMMV

Lowe's has the Hitachi 2-Tool 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Combo Kit for $99 (originally $179). Add to that a $20 off of $100 coupon (if you have one, just add a filler $1 so your order is over $100). and you can get the drill, impact driver, two batteries (one better than the other), and a charger for $80. But wait, you can do even better if you were targeted with Amex offer $10 off $50 at Lowe's

$99 - $20 coupon - $10 amex offer = $70 (+ taxes)

batteries will die and those are quite costly. Would it be better to get one of those with a lifetime warranty? Like the Rigid line from HD?

One standard and one extended run-time 18 Volt Li-ion batteries provide steady power for the duration of the charge and can be recharged for continued use. Battery 2 Amp-Hours = 1.5 and 2.5 respectively.

I am not sure what lifetime warranty means, but the box says "litium ion lifetime warranty". One reviewer wrote "I bought this because of the warranty was longer than Dewalt or Porter Cable. I also liked the extra capacity 2.5 ahr battery as most are only 1.5 ahr. Great power and not to heavy."

So, google to the rescue. You can find what it means here:

http://www.businesswire.com/news/...ithium-Ion
For these tools the lifetime warranty is 10 years.

What did you read?

"Tool packaging will undergo a rolling design change to reflect the new Lifetime Warranty. However in the meantime, existing packaging already produced and available for sale in the retail market may still show the 10-Year Warranty on the box. Regardless of the packaging, revised or not, Hitachi is covering all applicable Lithium Ion tools under the new warranty."

I think Lifetime warranty means Lifetime warranty, or until they stop making it.

Hitachi offers a Lifetime Lithium Ion tool warranty on the tool bodies included in this combo kit. Hitachi Lithium Ion batteries are warranted for 2-years, and the Chargers are warranted for 1-year.

Tried the $20 of 100 code found here and got the following response "Purchase does not qualify for promotion". The $15 off $75 works though. What do you guys think about the using this driver for car repair. It's only 100 lb/ft. Seems a bit anemic.

100% agree..lifetime ridgid battery and tool replacement make it a no brainer...I left one in the rain and the another I dropped in the pool...with the driver...all replaced no questions no bs

You just need to add a $1 filler... Like an outlet.
