android 7
Moto G4

YouTube app has Background data disabled.

Test:
Wifi off
Cellular data on

Open YouTube app, it still plays video Mad???
I have already tried to reinstall the YouTube app, it won't fix the issue.

Can someone test it on their android phone?

That is how it's supposed to work.. Background data refers to when the app is NOT open and running. If you open an app it's assumed you want to run it over whatever data connection is there.

Disabling background data prevents an app from using cellular data when it's idle in the background (e.g. sync-ing playlists or something).

You need to use one of the Firewall apps to achieve you goal. I personally have never used one but something like this sounds like it would work: https://play.google.com/store/app...uard&hl=en - there are many others: https://play.google.com/store/sea...apps&hl=en

"background data" = app uses data when you're not using the app. It doesn't shut off data access to the app altogether.
