First deal post, be gentle.

I was looking though my wishlist for a $25 minimum item and saw the lower end model of this DMM for $59. I was ready to buy it when I noticed that this upgraded model was actually cheaper. CCC indicates that the price hasn't been lower than this. This is definitely not a pro grade meter, but reviews are good. There is a video review of the lower end model on youtube here [youtube.com].

Nice find, I saw your comment on the IR thermometer thread heh. I wonder if this comes with the little adapter for testing transistors? (It has an HFE mode)

Ah just found this in the Q&A section:

Quote :
It includes the following accessories: user manual, soft carrying case, probes, alligator clips, multifunction test adapter and K-type thermocouple (temperature measurement).
I'm guessing the multifunction test adapter is what I'm thinking of..

Just don't plan on using this for anything other than dc or low voltage. AVE did a teardown on one of these and it's very cheaply made.

Looked up the review and at the end says not a bad deal for $50. Data logging is what you would buy this for.

I never said it was bad, I said higher voltage wouldn't be advised as the internals are not even in the same range as a $99 fluke.

I'd use it for car troubleshooting any time.

I would guess that this is just as well made (or as cheaply made, depending on how you look at it) as any other DMM in this price range. The difference is that most meters in this range lack true RMS, bluetooth connectivity, temperature reading capability, the multi-function test socket, and off-line data logging; that's where the value in this meter is. I would hope that anyone working on equipment that comes even close to the theoretical limit of this meter (1000 V) wouldn't be considering this meter in the first place.

As a DIYer, I won't hesitate to use this meter for 120/240 VAC testing as needed around the house / garage and for automotive / marine 12V testing too... it can't be any worse than the $10 craftsman or the $35 radio shack DMM's that have served me well thus far.
