So you take the OS off, swap the hard drive, and now you want help?

Doesn't matter what GPU your 7 year old laptop has... this has a 750ti which is orders of magnitude more powerful than anything made in 2010.

For $150 this is literally as good as it possibly gets. You will not fund a better deal for $150 unless you price match that HP gaming desktop from $500 to $200 using discover.

Definitely consider return protection or the $20 gamestop warranty cause these will have problems (yellow light of death)

This doesn't seem like that useful of a product for gaming from what I can see. Limited gaming options and the specs are about the same as my 7 year old laptop (with a slightly better graphics card).

I would avoid. I paid $187 for mine in July. I took SteamOS off immediately, and switched out the 500gb for an SSD and Windows 10. Had the "yellow alien head of death" issue almost immediately. Gamestop has not responded to requests for help.

When I can get it to run, its a neat couch machine and decent plex box. When I can get it to run...
Was yours new or refurb?

It was listed as Open Box. Didn't say refurb anywhere.

The i3 and i7 threads should've been combined.

I'd think that an open box would be barely used... you've got a ~2 week window to return the device and if it's not working I can't imagine they'd just resell a "not working/functional" system (but what do I know). I know people have had issues with the YLOD but none of my systems have had that issue. If you're going to get an SSD I'd recommend getting windows as well and installing it but steamOS is "fine" as well as long as your games work on it. The i3 is a bit underpowered but at $150 I think it'd be a decent little box to serve as some kind of htpc.

the bad thing about this is it uses DDR3L ram which is more expensive these days and a little harder to find.

Honestly for anyone looking I'd recommend this one. You're not going to find 4gb of DDR3L ram for $17.

Thats a much better deal considering you get the same 7200 RPM speed but double the ram and HDD capacity.

That machine will run any game you want at least at 1080p low 60 fps.

I don't get the difference. The i3 500g is (open box) "buy refurbised" and the i3 1TB is just "buy refurbished." How are there open-box refurbished items being sold? Aren't these all not new?
