I got it on the Slickdeals last week. It's practically new- it even had the sticker over the tabs.. For the price a no brainer if you want a simple soundbar, no attachments and no wifi (to mess up your streaming to Chromecast or whatever). It pumps out great clear vocals and music tone is very good. The only adjustment is bass and it is marginal, but adds a little aura to the center speaker. It's best for everyday use- newscasts, any TV shows even some sports. The unit does resonate just a tiny bit. Movies at the highest bass setting sound passable, but if you want body shaking boom, this is not it. I have an LG 751 and it is way more powerful and dynamic for music and movies, but overkill for everyday and newcast vocals, TV are not as direct. I also have a sound shaping NIRO system and it is very good, but finicky to setup for everyday use. I find that the Solo 5 provides a high quality sound that I've been using it for everything as all vocals sound clear and the pitchiness has smoothed down after a few days. It does have some lower bass when cranked up to the highest level (read the manual on how to adjust) and that gives it some enviornment. Plus, on occasion during a basketball game, I heard some sneakers squeaking beyond the TV. Even some TV shows with scary bass track were audible. Bose has an understated look with no fabric so that no only is it easy to clean, it looks pleasant. If you don't use it for your main unit, a bedroom or office can get a superb speaker/ bluetooth alternative. When Steve Guttenberg said that it is better to get 2 small bookshelf speakers and an amp than a soundbar, he was talking about the old days and who has time to do that!?! These things rarely go on sale, I missed it last time and almost missed it this time. If you want a simple soundbar to turn on, no fuss, no settings to mess up, this is it. It definitely punches above it's weight (it has a heft weight to it, too). ALMOST FORGOT: The remote is the big one that is programmable, which is super useful to reduce clutter or if your new TV remote is a small dinkster which likes to slide under your butt.

I asked an A/V what his thoughts on Bose products are. He said they are the best at putting a lot of sound in a small box. Yet you pay a premium for it and it certainly is not the best bang for your buck. So if you have a small space for a speaker then it is ideal. Yet if you want a better value do your research and look elsewhere.

Yeah.. the a/v guy is referencing retail pricing. This is far from retail pricing and a lot of bang for your buck.

just got one. don't expect the world from it... but it's perfect for a bedroom TV or somewhere you need more dialogue and less noise. it's not going to blow you away, sound-wise or volume-wise, but it's a huge upgrade over tv speakers. plus Bose sells a wall mounting bracket, and it works well with harmony remotes.

How does this compare to the recent Samsung/Yamaha soundbar deals?
