Thanks. This popped up in my alerts right after I already placed an order. Luckily, I managed to get it through Alexa so I didn't have to reach the $ threshold.

Bought this, returned it, more dangerous than the normal handle because it makes you think you don't need an oven mit, which you do, because it doesn't protect well.

Just wait for the cheap Westinghouse cast irons that come with this. The 8in pops up like once a month for six bucks, give the $2.57 pan to your favorite college student.

Do you have any recommendations for something else?

Any of the ones on Amazon that are made of oven mitt material. I see a set of 2 for 4.44 and a set of 3 for 6.99. I use similar ones every time I used my cast iron and don't need a pot holder over them.

Just echoing this. I had two of these, and I NEVER used them. They don't isolate well enough, so you have to use them together with a mitt / kitchen towel and ultimately you just have less grip and less control of your extremely heavy, very hot thing of metal.

I strongly recommend against getting these.

I'm glad you're one of the top comments. I came here to say the same thing. We have this, it sucks.

It also traps moisture inside and rusts the handle.

Awesome timing! I bought a Lodge combo cooker yesterday to make artisan bread and passed on the handle holder because it was a couple bucks more than I wanted to spend. Thanks!

Appreciate the effort but its not really useful without taking the temp away from the pan at the handle where you would actually pick it up. Just pointing it right at the pan edge tells us nothing

It's true that the temperature of the handle falls off dramatically as you get away from the lip of the pan. However, I measured the spot where I put my thumb and forefinger when I pickup the pan. Cast Iron pans are heavy and you can't easily hold then too far back from the handle when transferring them.
