Gold is the standard in PSUs in my opinion. We spend way too much money on our builds to risk them by cheaping out on a PSU.

Gold vs Bronze reflects efficiency not necessarily quality - plenty of POS Gold PSU's out there

They have some Raidmax gold rates PSUs at Frys for like $35! I'm sure they won't be good but they're gold rated!

Because they have more of a demand. Why have good sales on something you don't need to.

80 Plus ratings are not an indicator of build quality. There are plenty of garbage Gold rated PSUs out there.

Is EVGA a reasonably good brand of PSU? I'm unfamiliar with it. My old PSU just died after several years of always-on operation.

EVGA is the all around gold standard across the board. There power supplies are superb.
