Low review ratings at costco but mostly points to the app but not the hardware.

Won't buy anything with 1 star reviews 7x the number of 5 star reviews although allured by the bundle/price.

Hi KokoKong,

A lot of the negative reviews are due to the App ( mobile ).

The traditional security camera industry has good hardware and cameras, but their mobile apps are typically trailing behind the best apps we are used to using.

So far, it is impossible to find solutions which do well with all the aspects I would like to see in a security camera system.

Recommendation is to find a great app and use it with the good hardware in any decent wired PoE kit. ( for example: Tiny Cam Pro )

Hi Manfre,

I have not tried this particular hardware, I do know Tiny Cam Pro does a great job in general.

We have the Lorex 4K kit from Costco B&M fairly well documented so far, and as a Dahua oem product it seems the dahua sw works well with that also - so i would also try those sw apps on this kit.

How would you try a third party app with a nvr bundle? I am hesitating streamkng bunch of 4k camera content to a third party app for real time detection and alert mechanism.

Hi Flydeep,

Most of the options out there do not have 4K streaming 24/7 out to the cloud for any purpose.

Typically the design is to have the NVR / IP camera / VMS software on your PC do the "detection" and then send some sort of alert via the internet to email, an app, cloud service,..

There's probably a lot more to learn on the details here, and certainly different products and services behave slightly differently.

Which is why wire free, and cloud service cameras have reliability issues compared to a wired system.

Matt,

newbie here and still deciding what to buy (this or the $799 4K system)..

quick question, i have a local craigslist seller selling this for cheaps LKB343 and im thinking of snagging it. Can this be just powered stand alone (i have a POE switch) and just using a PC software? i have a 4-BAY (3TB each) Windows 2011 server and maybe just use a PC software.

sorry newbie.

Hi Mikeetastic,

Being new to a topic is OK and being willing to learn is good.

I like to use the ID distance listing to help me decide what will work well for me.

If you can get a decent IP PoE camera at a good price and have a PoE switch, I would go for it. imho it is very easy to find that having MORE cameras than you imagined at first to be very useful.

Think of each camera view as a chance to get a good image.. again a chance, as sometimes people purposely turn away from cameras - so having multiple cameras covering your cars or porch is very useful.

This particular camera, due to the wide FOV will have a shorter ID distance - which you should take into account when finding a good location for it.

Resolution 4MP (2688×1520) @ 20fps
Lens / Lens Type 2.8mm F1.8 / Fixed

For the front of my house I like to either maximize my daytime ID distance and coverage ( thus why I really like many of the 4K cameras ) and/or maximize my nighttime ID distance. ( which is currently dahua oem starlights from china ). I think a mix of cameras would give the best results.

Suggest taking a look at Blue Iris and getting as many quality cameras as you can afford for that PoE switch.

Also one option is to buy a nice kit which has the cameras and either keep the NVR or sell the NVR with some cameras and keep the cameras you want.

Also, iirc the lorextechnology.com BF-cyberweek deals are still going on for a couple of days - so it would be worth checking those out.

There's a lot of options once you look closer at IP setups - which is good, but will require more DIY learning. i think in the end you will be very happy with picking a nice PoE setup.

Don't buy their products. They have HORRIBLE Customer Service. I bought a system last week and it arrived defective. A camera bracket was broken and they said they don't cover brackets under warranty. I called them less than 12 hours after I received it! How can it NOT be under warranty? They ship defective material and think they can get away with that? I'm filing a claim with the credit card company to refund my purchase price.

Twice on the phone 35 minutes and they won't replace the broken bracket!!!

Don't put your trust in this so called Security Company.. They're as bad as crooks!FrownFrown

There's a reason they have and "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Bad Customer Service.

HI jdn,

Can you share the picture of the broken bracket with us?

Also, they have a iirc 60 day return policy if you got it from LorexTechnology.com, and Costco has a even better return policy.

I bought Lorek 4K NVR system with six 4K bullet cameras, and 2TB NVR from Costco two months ago. I am quite happy with the cameras and system performance. Contrary to other claims, my Android app has never crashed. My PC software also has never crashed (on Win10 Pro platform). I called Lorex support twice on Saturday mornings and spent about 90 minutes each time to learn and configure the system. They were knowledgeable, polite, and helpful. It seemed that the support was from a Latin American country. I also bought and installed the Blue Iris software app and desktop application. It definitely has more features, but I have not been able to configure it successfully. I have to pay extra for support (which I might do soon). The Lorex app may be "basic." but it works and the hardware is robust. The NVR generates a good deal of heat, and its fan is noisy.
