Enterprising Slickdealers must be capable of finding a new one at this price, right?

Used and not even 10% off lol. I hope people really aren't this desperate for a Switch.

No way a refurb is worth saving $20. That being said, I bet that most of these are from AC adapters going bad. Bad AC adapters actually seem to be pretty common. I would imagine most of the other refurbs are from joycon connectors getting damaged.

...I say all this from experience, as my original AC adapter went bad and I also have a joycon that won't click into place that the Switch won't detect.

Google express has/had it for 299-10% just yesterday. So yes, this is a crappy deal.

GameStop.
1- Local stores ship returns, and they are collected in warehouse(s).
2- Afterwards, employees comb through units that 'look good'.
3- The candidate units are separated and sold online.

At no point does anyone repair or refurbish units.

Also, Target had 10% off on their own gift cards this past Sunday. One could have gotten a $300 gift card for $270. The only caveat being that you had to wait until the next day before the gift card became usable.

As far as refurbished units go, it's hard for me to trust anyone other than Nintendo themselves.
