It was discontinued (at B&H) maybe that is why it's cheaper?

Wait for a deal on a Sony ICD-SX2000 for size or get something that does XLR. These are huge for what they are. Wifi barely works on it.

What would you use the wifi for? I guess it would be cool to control it via my phone, but I dont see much added benefits with it being wifi.

You can direct connect without a router. The idea is to use the phone as a remote so you could get the mic placement and not need to be on top of it. Then again add a 32 gb card and you can set to record and not worry about space as you would be limited by battery.

Zoom H1 is cheaply constructed but smaller.

Sony ICD SX2000 is new tech, also smaller, but twice as much.

This is big for what it is. Recordings will be about the same. I just think the sony offers a lot more when it goes on sale for $150.

The real bargain can be the Sony UX560 for like $60 + the $20 Sony lav if you are doing pocket recordings like at weddings.

I had both and kept Zoom. Zoom H1 is smaller/thinner and lighter, it only takes 1 battery vs 2 for Tascam. If portability is important for you - go with Zoom H1.

Zoom is also easier to use.

20 yrs ago i planted a regular cassette recorder in my car to find out what my frenemies thought about me. Wish i had this and wifi streaming back then. Found out only after i drove them where they wanted to go. No longer have frenemies, phone recording apps cover my recording needs. Still can use a high quality dedicated recorder if it can produce a cleaner file than a phone.
